2025 Annual Report
Cultural diversity, International understanding, Human rights, Welfare, Global Citizenship Education (GCED)
This year, our school focused on two core values: the importance of mutual recognition in daily life, and the mindset of treating every event as ‘one’s own matter.’
In June, we launched the ‘Mitomeai’ (Mutual Recognition) campaign. Students looked for the good points in their peers and created ‘Trees of Mutual Recognition’ for each grade, which bloomed with many messages of appreciation. It was heartwarming to see students noticing small kindnesses and sharing in each other’s joy.
Later, the Welfare Committee led an initiative to ‘Stand in Others’ Shoes.’ With support from the Yachiyo City Council of Social Welfare, students experienced using white canes and wheelchairs. They learned not just techniques, but the mindset required for caregiving, shifting their perspective to view accessibility as a personal issue.
In the second semester, the Student Council led a gratitude campaign for World Teachers’ Day in October. In November, we welcomed teachers from South Korea as part of an international collaboration program. Our students presented on Japanese school life, while the guests taught us about Korean culture, including the game ‘Yut Nori,’ language, and art. This exchange sparked deep reflections on diversity and cultural differences.
In December, we utilized Moral Education classes to discuss ‘What is needed to understand one another’ in honor of Human Rights Day. Finally, in March, we plan to hold a gratitude exchange event to conclude our year-long journey of ‘Mutual Recognition.’
Annual Work Plan
For the 2026 academic year, we plan to implement cross-curricular learning centered on the ESD Calendar created in 2025, utilizing learning materials related to cultural diversity, international understanding, human rights, social welfare, and Global Citizenship Education (GCED).
Specifically, we aim to enable students to apply this learning to their individual inquiry themes and research within the ‘Naze Nani Dai Kenkyu’ (Why and What Major Research) project during the Period for Integrated Studies.
We are also currently planning whole-school activities that align with ‘Door,’ the theme set by the Student Council for the latter half of this year. These activities will focus on areas such as cultural diversity, international understanding, welfare, and human rights. Furthermore, we plan to incorporate activities designed to encourage students to think deeply about ‘what we can do’ and to take action.”
