In the 2025 academic year, ESD (Education for Sustainable Development) and career education at our school were developed around our core educational philosophy, “Ritsumori is Ultra-Inquiry.” Throughout the year, we recorded 135 activities that reflected a practical process of connecting classroom learning to the resolution of social issues and the creation of the future, implementing diverse programs that fostered student initiative.
The first pillar, Global Education, deepened the quality of inquiry centered on the 11th-grade overseas study programs. We emphasized “active engagement with local societies” rather than simple observation, such as developing smart solutions in Estonia and conducting marketing research in Cambodia. We established a consistent inquiry process—from pre-study to field research and post-研修 reporting—to explore multicultural coexistence and international sustainability.
The second pillar, Science and Digital Education, aimed to balance advanced expertise with social implementation. We cultivated an attitude of contributing scientific knowledge to society through achievements such as winning the Toyobo Award at the Shiga Junior Research Grant, understanding professional ethics via medical foundation seminars, and participating in the Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry’s (METI) “Future Classroom” demonstration project. These efforts served as a vital step in building the technical and logical foundations for a sustainable society.
The third pillar, Regional Collaboration, Disaster Prevention, and Career Education, promoted cooperation with various social stakeholders. We actively conducted programs that positioned the school as a “part of society,” including regional contributions through the “Sakimori” disaster prevention camp, dialogues with female entrepreneurs, and the cultivation of multifaceted career perspectives through alumni interviews.
In conclusion, the 2025 academic year saw a significant transformation in which students viewed the sustainability of society as a personal matter and took action under the “Ultra-Inquiry” philosophy. These 135 activity records demonstrate that our school, as a UNESCO school and a pioneer in inquiry-based learning, is steadily nurturing the leaders of a sustainable future.
Annual Work Plan
In the coming academic year, our school will celebrate the significant milestone of its 20th anniversary. Under the banner of “Ritsumori is Ultra-Inquiry,” we have continuously embraced challenges in the fields of Global, Science, and Digital education, building a solid track record in ESD.
Building upon the achievements of the past two decades, we will further evolve toward the next 20 years with the theme: “From Deepening Inquiry to Social Implementation and Co-creation.” Moving beyond the mere acquisition of knowledge, we will establish a model for a “Future Co-creation School” where students use ICT and scientific thinking as tools to collaborate with diverse stakeholders both domestically and internationally to solve social issues. We view this 20th anniversary as a year of re-launching to integrate and accelerate our educational activities, continuing to produce change-makers who will forge a sustainable future as an educational hub trusted by the local community and the world.
