Linden Hall High School invited 15 students from Bluebells School in India in June 2025 to coincide with World Environment Day. The students from both schools gave presentations and exchanged ideas on the environmental studies they are conducting at their respective schools, as well as on aspects of their countries’ unique cultures. In the lower secondary Health classes, students learned about efforts to eradicate AIDS and created awareness-raising posters in connection with World AIDS Day. In these ways, our school has been continuously implementing activities as a UNESCO Associated School that are linked to various International Days.
This year, we also continued our annual coastal clean-up activity involving all students in the Lower Secondary Division, as well as the year-round “Environmental Science” course held twice a week. During the coastal clean-up at Koga Beach in Fukuoka City, students investigated how much plastic waste could be found within a one-square-meter area, classifying it by size. The collected plastic waste was brought back to school and used in their presentations and other outputs to communicate the current state of environmental issues.
Annual Work Plan
In the 2026 academic year, we will continue, as in the previous year, the coastal clean-up activity held in October for the Lower Secondary Division and the year-long “Environmental Science” course (35 hours per year). In the Upper Secondary Division, we will newly offer the IB Diploma Programme subject Environmental Systems and Societies. This two-year course covers environmental themes such as energy, ecosystems, population, and resources, and students will engage in various case studies that enable them to learn up to a specialized and practical level.
Within our school’s committee activities, we have established an ESD Committee, through which we support student-initiated projects aimed at realizing a sustainable society.
