Based on the spirit of the preamble of the UNESCO Charter, “Since war is born in the hearts of men, we must build a peace reserve in the hearts of men,” the school has been working on education with the school educational goals of “creation,” “autonomy,” and “respect” in order to “foster global leaders who will contribute to peace in the world.
In the area of “Global Citizenship and Culture of Peace and Nonviolence,” on May 30-31, the second-year students participated in the “One Man Stand Up! I will build a golden tower! They made a “Peace Declaration,” pledging to think of those who have suffered from war and to seek peace wherever they go.
In the area of cross-cultural learning and respect for cultural diversity and heritage, we welcomed Mr. Satoshi Inoue of the Inoue Brothers, a social business in the fashion world, to give a lecture on June 3, held an online exchange program with Hwigyeong Girls Middle School in Korea on June 26, and welcomed Ms. Richards, Jamaica’s Ambassador to Japan, on June 19. On June 19, we welcomed Jamaica’s Ambassador to Japan, Mr. Richards, for a reception; on November 13, we welcomed a delegation from Korea’s Poddok Junior High School for a reception; and on November 16, we welcomed Indian educator Dr. Kumanan for a roundtable discussion. On September 7, 32 international students from 15 countries studying at Soka University were invited to the Global Camp, where first-year students broadened their global perspectives through cross-cultural exchange in an all-English environment.
In the area of regional cooperation, the ISS EarthKAM Project Team participated in the “Environmental Festa in Katano,” an event hosted by the Katano Environmental Festa Citizens’ Conference, a local citizens’ group, on March 10. The team used photos taken from the International Space Station (ISS) to promote the importance of the environment.
In addition, the “Inquiry” program, which is designed to help students systematically acquire the skills of multilateral thinking, cooperation, research, presentation, consensus building, and questioning, held an “Inquiry Presentation” on February 23 to present the results of the year’s efforts to the public.
In addition, the monthly “Hokendayori” published by the Health Office includes columns on health-related UN Days such as World Tuberculosis Day (March 24), World Health Day (April 7), World No Smoking Day (May 31), World Blood Donation Day (June 14), World Hepatitis Day (July 28), World Diabetes Day (November 14), and World AIDS Day (December 1). The columns were themed on UN days related to health such as World Blood Donation Day (June 14), World Hepatitis Day (July 28), World Diabetes Day (November 14), and World AIDS Day (December 1), and the significance of these days was learned.
Annual Work Plan
In the area of “Intercultural Learning and Respect for Cultural Diversity and Heritage,” we plan to hold a welcome party for a group from Hwigyeong Girls Middle School in Korea on February 12, and a global camp for first-year students on September 6.
In the area of community relations, the ISS EarthKAM Project Team will participate in the “Environmental Festa in Katano” on March 9.
An “Inquiry Presentation” is scheduled to be held on February 21 to present the results of the year-long “Inquiry” activities.
