Our school aims to foster creators of a sustainable society through all educational activities, guided by the educational goal of “thinking and acting independently.”
Every summer, the entire school participates in peace education, learning about the atomic bombing of Hiroshima and the air raid on Fukuyama to reflect on the preciousness of life and the importance of peace.
In our instructional research, we focused on the theme “Creating Lessons Where Children Enjoy the ‘Learning Process’,” developing lessons aimed at fostering self-determination and self-regulation skills.
Furthermore, working towards the SDG goal of “Sustainable Cities and Communities,” this year we concentrated on comprehensive learning time: 4th graders engaged in environmental studies, 5th graders in welfare studies, and 6th graders in local history studies.
Fourth graders conducted environmental studies linked to social studies. To address water issues, they toured a water purification plant and explored water purification methods at home. For waste management, they participated in a mobile garbage truck lesson and launched a school-wide campaign to reduce waste. They also created posters and picture books displayed around the school to reduce food waste during school lunches.
Fifth graders engaged in welfare education, participating in experiential learning as “people with disabilities” and “pregnant women.” Through research, they considered actions they could take and created posters and pamphlets. They also gathered information about foreign residents and elderly people in the community, deepening their understanding of welfare.
Sixth graders engaged in local history studies, setting their own research topics such as the area’s history and the origins of place names. With the cooperation of local residents, they visited the Futatsuzuka Kofun burial mounds, designated as a National Historic Site, and compiled their findings into a leaflet. Experiencing local cultural assets fostered a deeper attachment to their community
Annual Work Plan
This year, under the school educational goal of “Think for Yourself and Take Action,” we will continue to aim to nurture creators of a sustainable society through all educational activities. Furthermore, in the integrated studies period, building on this year’s initiatives, we will revise the curriculum map. Fourth graders will focus on environmental studies, fifth graders on welfare studies, and sixth graders on local history studies. While collaborating with the community, we will continue our efforts toward realizing the SDG “Sustainable Cities and Communities.”
