2025 Annual Report

Areas covered as subjects of study

Disaster reduction/prevention, Environment, World heritage/intangible cultural heritage/regional cultural properties, International understanding, Peace, Human rights, Welfare

In disaster prevention classes, students discussed what preparations they should make and how they should act to protect their lives. They deepened their understanding by listening to a talk by a city hall representative during a field trip. Through this lesson, students learned what items they should prepare for disasters, made them, and reviewed their household items. Students were able to imagine what would happen if a disaster were to occur and gain a concrete image of what to do. Students from a local junior high school also shared their learning experiences, broadening the scope of their learning. In environmental studies, students focused on recycling. They called on local residents to collect empty cans, bottles, trays, and other items, with the goal of using the proceeds to plant flowers to brighten the environment. In peace studies, students listened to stories from local people who experienced war. They also listened to stories from people living in Nagasaki online, interacting with them by asking questions and sharing their impressions. University students from a nearby area provided instruction on how to read aloud. Students practiced in groups and shared war-related picture books with the entire school. Students also had the experience of attending the World Rose Convention in their hometown of Fukuyama. The students broadened their horizons by talking about their town and school to foreigners attending the World Rose Congress and listening to their stories. Together with local residents, they planted roses in the flower beds at the school and along the route to school. The rose, the flower of Fukuyama City, is a symbol of peace and should be carefully cultivated, and they carried out the project with a rose mind. They also interacted with elderly people living in the area, talking together and learning traditional games, which allowed them to communicate with each other.

Annual Work Plan

Next year, students will continue to learn about disaster prevention, the environment, peace, and community collaboration. Through these themes, we aim to foster in each student a sense of responsibility as a member of a sustainable society. In disaster prevention classes, students will develop the knowledge and ability to act to protect their lives through disaster prevention measures and evacuation drills in their daily lives and communities. In the environmental theme, students will understand the importance of nature and resources in their surroundings and practice recycling and energy conservation. Regarding peace, students will respect different cultures and values and learn the significance of building a peaceful society. They will hold peace assemblies at school and participate in community gatherings to further their mutual understanding. For community activities, we plan to research the history and characteristics of their region, promote its appeal, and interact with local residents. Through these activities, we aim to foster students’ ability to think and act independently, and to foster the humanity to contribute to their community and society. Based on the principles of UNESCO, we will continue to promote educational activities that deepen international understanding and love for their community.
